Patrick arrived early to pick up Lola the other day and was presented with a prime opportunity to capture Lola and her friends in secret while they were still in their element!
- a little turner and hooch tribute....
-fun at daycare-
Despite how intelligent we believe Lola to be, every now and again she reminds us that she is 'just a dog', and that even the simplest inanimate objects can seem to be lifelike and possessed.
SLOBBER DOG! Although Lola doesn't slobber on a regular basis, there are some times when she gets really worked up and her saliva gets as ropey as I've ever seen.... here's the best case of slobber dog that she's shown us to date.
We've shown you that Lola loves the water, but we've come to find out that she only likes the water if she can slither in. Steps.... they are a different story.
When handling steps, we go through an identical progression each time.
STEP 1. THE ELEPHANT ON THE STOOL POSE.
here, we put our feet as close together as possible on 1 single step and try to make sure that the water doesn't go past our ankles
STEP 2. THE CROUCH
here, lola will bow down and allow the water to creep a little bit higher... just on her front legs
STEP 3. SECOND STEP
here, lola creeps down to the second step... again, just the front paws
STEP 4. THE STRETCH
here, lola refuses to go any further, and will stretch forward, and then wimper until we help her.

THIS WAS A MONUMENTAL WEEKEND FOR LOLA.... Lola learned to speak on command, and also showed us that she is more of a swimmer than Patrick could ever dream of being....
I have to mention that Lola is by no means the kind of dog who just jumps into the water with reckless abandon... it is a very calculated entry that we can only describe as "slithering"
Lola was introduced to the dog park that will be her new stomping ground in the not so distant future. It was everything a puppy could ever dream of. Holes that other dogs had already started for her, mud everywhere, and a pond with more tennis balls than she knew what to do with....
Here's Lola picking her favorite ball from the group
This is the lucky ball that Lola decided to claim for her own...
And this is what Lola likes to do when you toss the ball in the water for her!!!!!!
Please take a moment to notice that she is swimming so fast in the one clip that she has a wake behind her...
Along with the standard issue tastings that we took part in, the gang took part in a couple of extra events during their food and drink marathon. Patrick and Ashley went to a Rip Van Winkle handmade bourbon tasting seminar hosted by the distiller himself, and the group of 4 went to a Bubbles and Sweets party that lasted till the late night...
Ashley was definitely a trooper for being one of the only women at the manly bourbon tasting event, and was CLEARLY the youngest one there! We were a little groggy, a little sluggish, and were sat down in front of 4 big glasses of bourbon.... straight up...
We were exposed to bourbon that had come right off the still....(I LIKE TO CALL THIS ONE THE VOMIT MAKER)
We were also exposed to the other end of the spectrum, 23 year old Bourbon that costs $400 a bottle
Although it was hard to rally up for this event, one thing was clear... Patrick was in heaven!
The Bubbles and Sweets was something that was more up Caitlin's alley. Champagne from one side of the room to the other, everything draped in pink shades, and a band playing that would lead you to believe Lady Gaga was playing one minute, and the Black Eyed Peas the next...
Chris eventually hit his groove, and was able to find something pink that Caitlin wouldn't want.....
Even the presentation of the desserts was unique.... Here's Ashley getting a desert out of a vending machine.... chocolate filled with orange and poprocks....
Due to the fact that Lola has a very sensitive stomach, and that she currently only enjoys one type of food.... every meal..... every day.... she elected to sit out the fun at the Charleston Food and Wine Festival....
Lola agreed to drive us to the festival....
And then promptly returned to the hotel where she most likely spent her time with more of this...
What can only be described as a fancy day of stealing samples at Costco (feel free to substitute BJ's , or Sam's Club) left each of us very full, smelling like wine, and rethinking our previous decision to walk back to the hotel...Here's some pictures from the extravaganza!
THE WALK OVER
THE FIRST BITE
THE FIRST GLASS
THE FIRST SOUVENIR (a plate that incorporates a wine glass)
THE FIRST BATHROOM BREAK (not as gourmet as the rest of the day).... sorry Caitlin
THE FIRST PERSON DESIGNATED TO HOLD EVERYONE'S CRAP
Ashley and I made the drive up to Charleston this week for a bit of househunting and some time at the food and wine festival. As per usual, Lola was invited along for the trip, and again provided most of the entertainment....
Lola made her usual attempts at sleeping in different positions...
Some of them were not appreciated by those riding in the front seats....
And when all else fails, the giant dog who thinks it is a lapdog, will try to sit in the front seat.... it didn't work too well...
When that fails, the only thing left to do is play.....
After that, Lola discovered the sunroof..... The sunroof offered many things she had never dreamed possible. The convertible without wind in her face, a view out a window IN THE CIELING, an opportunity to stare at birds, a chance to let her lips flap in the breeze, and an opportunity to try to eat some air....
And there is only one way to end a road trip like this..... a nap in her very own bed in the hotel...
